After multiple postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Met Gala finally returned on Monday (September 13), summoning the hottest celebrities and public figures du jour for fashion’s biggest night out. The theme of the evening was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” in celebration of the Met Costume Institute’s forthcoming exhibit of the same name.

Plenty of LGBTQ+ artists and activists were in attendance, and they did not pass up a prime opportunity to stunt. Find 10 of our fave queer looks from the event below, listed in no particular order.

  1. Megan Rapinoe’s “In Gay We Trust” clutch

The out Olympian and fierce advocate for pay equality in sports really understood the assignment.

  2. Nikkie de Jager’s subtle homage to Marsha P. Johnson

  3. Lil Nas X’s knight eleganza

  4. We don’t entirely get it, but we appreciate the out rapper/PrEP party host’s effort.

  5. Dan Levy’s globe-trotting, very gay ’fit

The Schitt’s Creek star and co-creator took this year’s place-based theme quite literally, sporting a pastel-hued set with map motifs galore — and the silhouettes of two men kissing.

  6. Kim Petras’s horse head couture

  7. Elliot Page’s green carnation

At first glance, the Umbrella Academy star appears to be wearing a plain black suit, but the green carnation pinned to his jacket is actually an Oscar Wilde reference.

  8. Troye Sivan’s chic cutouts

Heeled books, sexy cutouts, and a leather cuff? We’re listening.

  9. Symone’s golden glamour

  10. Mj Rodriguez’s sculpted gown

The Pose alum always stuns on a red carpet, and this sculptural look was no exception.

Brooklyn-based writer and editor. Probably drinking iced coffee or getting tattooed.
