MUKDAHAN: Another five Uighur migrants who broke out of a detention cell in this northeastern border province on Friday were recaptured on Sunday, according to media reports.

On Jan 10, seven male Uighur migrants escaped from the detention cell of the Mukdahan immigration police office. One of them was recaptured on the same day following a manhunt.

Following a tip-off from local residents, another of them was recaptured on Sunday morning in a sugarcane plantation near a health park in the Mukdahan municipality area. Shortly afterwards, four more were caught in the same vicinity by a team of police led by Pol Col Pansak Worawiboonsawat, the Mukdahan immigration police chief.

One of the escapees is still at large.

Police believed the last escapee would be caught soon.

Five immigration police officers, including Pol Lt Col Theerawat Thipthanawiwat, deputy chief of the Mukdahan immigration police, were transferred after the escape of the Uighurs due to lax supervision.
