Eight people were killed in a mass shooting at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis Thursday night, a spokeswoman for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said. 

Police were called to the facility for reports of gunfire after 11 p.m. and officers “arrived to an active shooter incident,” spokeswoman Genae Cook said. 

Eight people with gunshot wounds were pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting. 

“The officers responded,they came in and did their job. A lot of them are trying to face this, because this is a sight that no one should have to see,” Cook said.

According to CNN, multiple others were injured and taken to the hospital. 

Police said the shooter took his own life and the motive is unclear at this time, according to BBC

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police held a press conference early Friday morning. 

FedEx released a statement that they are cooperating with authorities.

According to WIBC 93.1 FM anchor John Herrick, this is the fourth mass shooting in Indianapolis in 2021.

Herrick also said the FedEx facility where the shooting took place was a mass distribution center for COVID-19 vaccines.

The investigation is ongoing.
