Acer’s Aspire lineup is meant to be more along the mid-range, providing value for your dollar. The Aspire 5 that the company sent me sure does a lot of that, packing high-end performance into a low-cost package.
The model that Acer sent me includes an AMD Ryzen 7 4700U, 8GB RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a 15.6-inch FHD display. All of that comes in a package that costs $549.99, which is wildly inexpensive for something that good.
In my experience with AMD’s Ryzen 4000 parts so far, a Ryzen 5 4500U is comparable to an Intel Core i7-1065G7. That means that the Ryzen 7 4700U should easily exceed that, making it possibly the best all-around 15W processor on the market. It’s an octa-core chip with eight threads and AMD Radeon Graphics.
That price also gets you plenty of storage, a pretty and large 15.6-inch FHD display, and an adequate amount of RAM. What’s also cool is that you can easily gain access to the motherboard by unscrewing the bottom panel, where you can add an extra HDD. In fact, the laptop even comes with an HDD mounting kit.
