MUKDAHAN: The last of the seven Uighur illegal migrants who broke out of an immigration detention cell in this northeastern border province on Jan 10 was recaptured on Monday night, police said.
Mutalib, 33, who appeared exhausted, was caught about 11pm in front of a cement grinding plant while he was walking along the Mukdahan town’s ring road, ending the three-day manhunt.
He was only about 6 kilometres from the Mukdahan immigration police cell he fled from at the second Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge.
Before his recapture, police on Monday handed out copies of Mutalib’s picture, asking people to keep an eye out for him. A resident later called police, reporting seeing a man walking on the ring road between the sericulture centre and Khok Suwan intersection.
Teams of police were sent to the area and Mutalib was arrested.
Seven Uighur illegal migrants broke out of the detention cell on the night of Jan 10. One was recaptured that day and five others on Sunday.
