The upcoming Mafia remake by Hanger 13 will ship with a special Classic difficulty mode that will change up the gameplay to offer an experience more aligned with the original title, enabling many realism-focused elements such as tougher vehicle handling and less forgiving cops.

While playing in classic difficulty, players will find that vehicle handling assists will no longer help them, and the durability of the retro automobiles is lowered. This should make that certain racing mission once again a tough nut to crack. Just like in the original, police won’t just look away from traffic offenses in Classic, even going above the speed limit will have them chasing the player down to fine them.

Moreover, reloading a weapon with ammunition still remaining in the magazine will mean those remaining bullets are lost. Enemy gangsters will be tougher too, dealing more damage while also being more aggressive towards Tommy, plus they won’t appear on the minimap. Tommy will only regenerate 20% of his health bar in this difficulty, while first aid kits found around the environment will heal him for a smaller portion than in other modes.

The studio is providing the ability to jump between difficulty modes at any point while playing, and also adjust elements like aim assist, police response, and vehicle handling individually. However, there will be an achievement waiting for players who complete the entire storyline on Classic difficulty without bumping any settings down.
